01-12-2010

Haiti was struck with a 7.0 Earthquake just before 5PM on Tuesday 01-12-2010

The Earthquake struck near Port au Prince and there is major widespread damage. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and they do not have the resources to deal with such a disaster.

We will be providing the relief outside our normal area of operations due the magnitude of this disaster.

At this time, much of our efforts will be directed to a Children's Mission in Port-au-Prince. They have lost all of their buildings. All of the children are literally on the streets. Many are very young, disabled, and handicapped and are in great need of care and medical attention.

PLEASE MAKE A DONATION NOW TO HELP.

100% OF ALL DONATIONS WILL GO DIRECTLY TO THE  HAITI RELIEF.

Please mark your Donation as: " HAITI"

Thank you.

  ===================================================

We will be working in Haiti for some time. While there, we plan on sending video back. This will probably be both Live and Pre-Recorded video. Full details on how we will be doing this will not be known until we are there and have an opportunity to test it out. We are unsure if Haiti has the fast enough data speeds to be able to send Live Video.

Below you will find our video when it is active.

PLEASE remember to use viewer discretion. This is a disaster area and some images may not be suitable for all viewers.

Haiti Relief Efforts Update

02-01-2010

We will be using our regular cell phone and computer data card from Haiti. We will not get another phone while there. AT&T is waiving all roaming and related charges while calling to and from Haiti while using the AT&T cell phones and data card. Thank you AT&T. Anyone who needs to reach me, please call the cell number at anytime. Other messages will be retrieved from the main line as we can.

Also, thank you to our Web Hosting company, Dryline Hosting. They have increased our service level and web site capacities to help with our work.

Preparing for Haiti trip today. Driving down to Miami with supplies. Will be leaving out of Miami, courtesy of The University of Miami. Many thanks to the University and Colonel John McCafferty at Southern Command. Many updates to follow.

01-27-2010

It has now been two weeks since the massive earthquake struck Haiti. The death toll is huge, but sadly the actual numbers will never be known. There has been no accurate record keeping of bodies recovered or what was done with the deceased. Many have been burned where found or have been taken way and put in landfills. Estimates say at least 200,000 may have died, with well over 100,000 recovered. Untold numbers are still in the rubble. Remote villages and areas have yet to be assessed.

Humanitarian Aid and Relief is getting better. Many groups, along with military troops are on the ground with food and water. Medical aid is reaching many more people. Yet, it is all just at the very tip of what has to be done. It is almost an impossibilty to feed over 1 million people per day in the current conditions. The so-called tent cities being put up by the people of Haiti are not much more than just sheets and sticks. At the first rain, there will be no shelter for these people.

Emergency calls and requests for help have slowed tremendously. Yet, we are still receiving many requests and questions for aid of all kinds for remote villages, mainly in the mountain regions. Many cities and towns that are not easily accessible, still have not received help. The actual needs and conditions are unknown.

Your continued help is greatly appreciated and needed.

Currently plans are underway to go Port-au-Prince and establish our relief operations for them from the center of activity.  As more time passes and SAR operations move more to the assistance phase, we will be in place to assist more and directly move requests and assistance to Command. We will further be able to directly see what is needed where ours and other's relief aid may be needed.

 -------------------------------------------------------------------------

We sincerely thank all those that have volunteered, helped, and donated to this disaster. Your continued support and help is greatly needed.

A special thanks to Wilson Electronics for supplying us with all of the cellular and data amplification equipment for our operations in Haiti. The use of their equipment will allow us to better obtain and use cellular and communication signal data in this area where the normal service is currently not totally restored.

Further Updates will follow here and on our Facebook page.

TROPICAL STORM IDA

11-11-2009

Alert 1 Weather, Inc. just returned from the Alabama and Florida Gulf  Coast. We were on scene for two days as Hurricane and subsequently, Tropical Storm Ida moved toward the U. S. Coast.

We were on scene as the storm made landfall and we were ready to provide the area with Relief or Humanitarin Aid if needed.

Fortunately, this storm decreased greatly in strength as it neared the coast, obviously saving major injuries, possible loss of life, and destruction of property. The majority of its impact was related to beach erosion and minor flooding on roadways and coastal areas. Areas near and along its landfall path experienced heavy rainfall and some flooding of low lying areas.

The United States has been very fortunate this year when it comes to tropical systems or Hurricanes making landfall.  Other areas of the United States have not fared as well as numerous severe weather systems have struck various area and wildfires have been rampant this year in the west.

URGENT MESSAGE and REQUEST

Alert 1 Weather, Inc. desperately needs your Financial Donations immediately so that we can continue our Disaster Relief and Aid to all those still in need. We are just now reaching the prime time of the year for more severe storms across the United States. With those storms will undoubtedly come more damage and injuries and the desperate calls for help.

Please help us now with your Financial Donations.

We do not want to be forced to turn down those in need. No amount is too small. All donations will be used directly for those in need. All donations are Tax-Deductable, as we are a legitimate Non-Profit Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief Organization. Receipts will be supplied to all those that need or require them. (Please be sure we have a physical address or email address to send your receipt)

2010 SEASON

STORM / TORNADO RESEARCH,

DOCUMENTATION, AND

HUMANITARIAN AID TRIPS

Alert 1 Weather, Inc. will be making several weekly trips to the Plains States and surrounding areas beginning in April and continuing through June, 2010.

These trips will have several various agendas, with much emphasis placed on Severe Storm / Tornado Damage Assessment, Research, Post-Storm Damage Documentation, Public Relations, and Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief.

Projected Dates: Beginning or Ending days may be varied by one day either way dependant upon weather conditions.

There will be a minimum of one opening per trip for those wanting to participate in our work and experience the storms on the Plains. These trips will range from 5 – 7 days total. The trips will be hands-on involvement and participation. There is no strenuous work involved. Participants can expect to have long hours on most days and may be up close and need to interact on a personal level with those that have been affected by a Severe Weather Disaster.

Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief is our main goal and Mission of our Organization. We may or may not be involved in this area on a specific trip.

As we are a Not-for-Profit Organization and are Not a tour operator or operation, the cost involved is minimal compared to taking a tour. Our trips are planned within the general specified areas mentioned above.

If you feel this may be the kind of hands-on experience you wish and want to possibly help make a difference when needed, we invite you to contact us immediately. We have gotten a late start this year due to the unusually high number of Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief efforts in the Southeast U.S. this year

For anyone wishing a conventional guided tour, please refer to the many reputable tour operators that offer these tours.

SEEKING VOLUNTEERS

11-14-2009

Would you like to be a part of reaching out to those in need and helping people when a disaster strikes?

Every year hundreds of people are affected in some form by Severe Weather Events, Natural and Man-Made Disasters. For almost everyone of these people, this is the biggest tramatic event that has ever happened to them. They are at a loss of what to do.

  • What is their next step?
  • How do they start over?
  • How do they help their families?
  • How will they eat?
  • Where will they get the medicines they need?
  • Where will they stay?
  • How will they just make it through the day?

There are too many scenarios to list. So many times, just a warm smile, a gentle touch, a comforting word can make all the difference to these people.

We, at Alert 1 Weather, strive to reach out and help anyone in their hours of need. As we are growing, we are getting more and more requests from all over to help. While we can not be everywhere, we would like to have a network of people in many areas who are willing to help when they can or when they are needed.  No special skills are required to join in our all volunteer organization. Only a desire to help in some way is all we ask. Those with specialized skills are always welcome and needed also.

There are no set amounts of time or locations required to be a part of our Organization.

Volunteers from Churches, Schools, Civic Groups, Businesses, and various organizations are very welcome and needed to join us.

We are always in need of various donated items also. Many times, as our supplies come in, they may go out just as quickly. It seems we never have enough.

  • Non-Perishable Foods
  • Bottled Water
  • Personal Hygeine Items
  • Baby / Infant Items
  • First Aid Supplies
  • Clothing of all sizes and kinds
  • Blankets
  • Emergency Lighting
  • Generators
  • Chainsaws
  • Monetary Donations

If you would like to join us, help those in need, or just have any questions, please contact us at anytime at any of the email addresses below.

Please specify:

  • What city you currently live
  • Approximate areas or distance you are willing or able to go
  • Any specific days or times you would not be available.
  • PLEASE be sure to give us your contact information should you wish to join us.
  • Please list if you have any specialized skills that may further help.

THANK YOU !
