Massive Tornado Outbreak Update

05-07-2011

Our operations are continuing in several areas across Alabama and in conjunction with other organizations in Mississippi and Georgia.

Alert 1 Weather has made the long term commitment to this disaster and the ongoing relief efforts as people try to start the very long process of clean up and rebuilding.

This tornado outbreak is unprecedented in U.S. history. It is the single largest tornado outbreak and loss of life due to this kind of disaster in history.

Alert 1 Weather and its volunteers will continue our work with all of these people in need and we will not stop until lives are put back together again and we are no longer needed.

We will desperately need your donations and volunteer help while we continue this long process.

More information is found on our Donations page.

05-03-2011

We have toured and documented the devastation and the needs of the people in many areas of Alabama. The people will require Relief and Humanitarian Aid for months to come. This devastation is extremely large and will require many months to even start clearing away much of the debris. Documentation photos have been added on our Gallery page.

Please help us continue our relief efforts to help those greatly in need by making a donation through any of our Donation links on our website.

Massive Tornado Outbreak of 04-27-2011

Alert 1 Weather is actively involved throughout Central Alabama providing our largest relief effort yet. Over 250 lives have been lost in Alabama alone. Well over 1000 have been injured, many are still unaccounted for. There are literally thousands of homes destroyed, thousands damaged and many thousands of people are left with no where to go and nothing left of any of their possessions.

Alert 1 Weather, Inc. desperately needs your donations at this time to bring some much needed Humanitarian Aid to these victims. We will be involved for a very long time in these areas. We are in urgent need of the following:

  • Water
  • Snacks
  • Sunscreen
  • Gloves
  • Wash Clothes
  • Toiletries - Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Soap
  • Hand Cleaner
  • Hand Sanitizer

Plans are underway to provide some type of food and sandwiches in the neighborhoods where the victims are searching through the massive debris for any of their possessions.

Alert 1 Weather is a non- profit, all volunteer organization. Every single dollar is used directly for relief aid for the victims.

PLEASE donate any amount that you can. No amount is too small and is greatly needed.

Please go to our DONATIONS link to make your donations. All major Credit Cards and Debit Cards accepted. If you prefer, you may mail your donation to:

HAITI

Our continued involvement is Haiti is in full force. The devastation of the massive earthquake on January12, 2010 remains much as it did over 1 year ago. Approximately 300,000 (revised numbers) died and well over 1.5 million people were left homeless.

To make matter worse on the people of Haiti, on October 19, 2010 the first case of Cholera was confirmed in the country. Since that time over 4000 people have died and in excess of 200,000 have been infected.

To compound the terrible situations occurring in Haiti, they are in the middle of Presidential elections in a country that is deeply rooted in political turmoil and accusations of wrong-doings. This makes other countries' government hesitant to place recovery funds there for fear that the monies may not reach the intended victims. This has left a very major portion of relief efforts on Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) who are deeply strained to provide the relief and medical help necessary to save lives and help this country revive.

Alert 1 Weather, Inc volunteers continue on a daily basis to provide aid to the impoverished country. Working through the Haiti Medical and Public Health Information Sharing Environment, (Haiti MPHISE), Haiti Epidemic Advisory System (HEAS) and the Bio-Surveillance System, we daily provide Weather, Logistics Services, and Security Information

011 ALERT 1 WEATHER OPERATIONS UPDATE

January 10, 2011

Alert 1 Weather, Inc., during the year 2011, will be enhancing and furthering our involvement in all areas of our operations.

DISASTER RELIEF and HUMANITARIAN AID

Our commitment to the needs of the people who have been adversely affected by disasters will increase. Through additional volunteers and our Sponsors' dedicated involvement, we will be there to provide our current and NEW additional services.

SEVERE WEATHER LIVE COVERAGE, DOCUMENTATION and FIELD WORK

In addition, our Severe Weather Live Coverage, Documentation, and Field Work will be stepped up. From the start of our operations in 2008, we have been and will continue to be a full time, 52 weeks per year, operation and do not operate only during times of severe weather. We are constantly involved in some form of our work and working toward providing better services.

Our first two years were excellent years and last year, 2010, again provided us with amazing opportunities to be involved in extensive research studies with numerous Government and non-Governmental Organizations. This included working with and along side:                                     ⇒⇒⇒⇒⇒

  • National Science Foundation - NSF
  • National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration - NOAA
  • National Weather Service - NWS
  • National Severe Storms Laboratory  - NSSL
  • VORTEX 2 Research Project
  • Oklahoma State University
  • Texas Tech University
  • University of Florida
  • Florida State University
In addition, in 2011, we are looking forward to our working with some new Professional and Dedicated Severe Weather Researchers and new Disaster Relief Volunteers across the country. The volunteers are such dedicated and caring individuals who freely give their time and truly care about helping their fellow man.

We look forward to our continuing commitment from our sponsors  and some new sponsors. Without our sponsors willingness and desires to help the people in need, much of our work would not be possible.
We ask you to kindly recognize and do business with these sponsors.

NEW SPONSORS

05-21-2011

Alert 1 Weather, Inc. is extremely pleased that GOLIGHT has joined us as one of new sponsors. GOLIGHT will be supporting our ongoing work in all areas of our disaster relief operations.

We will be using the remote controlled GOLIGHT on both our vehicles and trailers as we work in the various disaster areas. We are able to use these as Spot Lights, Flood Lights, or a combination with the independently operated remotes.

These have proven themselves to be invaluable as we go into and work the many disaster areas we have needed to work this year.

Alert 1 Weather, Inc. is pleased and honored to welcome SPOT, LLC.  as our newest sponsor SPOT, LLC produces a full line of personal satellite messaging and emergency communication devices. The SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger provides a vital line of communication with friends and family when you want it, and emergency assistance when you need it. Using 100% satellite technology, SPOT works virtually anywhere in the world, even where cell phones don’t – all with the push of a button.

Alert 1 Weather, Inc. will be using these devices in Haiti, in conjunction with the Haiti MPHISE in the  massive cholera relief efforts. Utilizing the Tracking Progress option, we will be able to follow and track, via Google maps, the medical relief teams as they work throughout the rugged and remote areas of the country. Additionally, the teams will be able to send an OK message or a short customized message back to our operations center. If required, an SOS signal can be sent for Critical or Life Threatening situations.

PRESS RELEASE

 03-12-2010

Alert 1 Weather, Inc. is very pleased and proud to announce that we have been invited and requested to join the Vortex2 project for the 2010 year. This is a huge honor, as only a very limited number of people from around the world are invited to join in this scientific project.

Vortex2 is the world's largest and most scientific study to understand and study tornadoes. Alert 1 Weather, Inc. will be working alongside of over 100 scientists, over a dozen universities, several government, private organizations, and participants from the United States , Italy , Netherlands , United Kingdom , Germany , Canada , and Australia .

The National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are contributing over $10 million toward this study.

Dennis Sherrod from Alert 1 Weather, Inc. will be participating and traveling across the United States with the group while these studies are being undertaken by the Vortex2 project.

Currently, the average warning time is 13 minutes, with a 70% False Alarm Rate. Goals and hopes are that these studies will provide better understanding and may be used to increase warning times to 30-60 minutes with more accuracy. This will inevitably lead to saving more lives and reduce injuries to those in the path of tornadoes.

VORTEX2is by far the largest and most ambitious effort ever made to understand tornadoes.
Over 100 scientists and over 50 science and support vehicles participate in this unique, fully nomadic, field program during its second field season in 2010. The National Science Foundation (NSF) foundation and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are contributing over $10 million towards this effort. Participants will again be drawn from over a dozen universities, and several government and private organizations. International participants will be drawn from Italy , Netherlands , United Kingdom , Germany , Canada and Australia .

06-18-2010

Alert 1 Weather, Inc. completed the field operations with the Vortex 2 group.  That phase involved hundreds of tests and findings which will be conducted through at least October 2011 and the study will provide information and scientific findings that will be used for years to come.
